Aqyila Reimagines Tate McRae’s greedy with a Soulful R&B Twist in Re/Worked - The JUNO Awards

Re/Worked: The Greedy Sessions is a new three-part video series that invites Canadian artists to reimagine Tate McRae’s hit song “greedy” in their own unique styles.

Tate McRae’s “greedy” has taken the world by storm, earning the 2024 JUNO Award for Single of the Year and becoming a global mega-hit. Now, in the premiere episode of Re/Worked: The Greedy Sessions, JUNO-winning artist Aqyila delivers a sultry, romantic R&B rework just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Meet R&B sensation, Aqyila

Hailing from Toronto, Aqyila has experienced a stready rise in the music industry. Her 2021 debut single, “Vibe for Me (Bob for Me),” earned her a JUNO Award nomination for Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year, marking the start of her ascent as one of Canada’s most promising R&B voices. Since then, she’s released hits that have gained global recognition, including “Hello” and “Bloom”—both of which have been certified Gold in South Africa.

By 2024, Aqyila’s career had reached new heights. Her EP For the Better featured “Hello”, which won the JUNO Award for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Meanwhile, her viral hit “Bloom” climbed Spotify’s Daily Viral 50 chart in 21 countries, amassing over 44 million streams in just a few months.

Now, with two 2025 JUNO nominations for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year and Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year, Aqyila is poised for even more success.

Reworking “greedy” – Aqyila’s Approach

In the first episode of Re/Worked: The Greedy Sessions, Aqyila reimagines “Greedy” through her Gospel-inspired R&B lens, delivering a performance that is both bold and delicate.

“I started adding in some really cool vocal harmonies around the hook—I wanted it to sound like a choir,” Aqyila shares in the video. Her deep connection to Gospel music shines through as she layers dramatic and soulful elements to create a fresh version of the track.

“That’s the whole fun purpose of Re/Worked,” she explains. “You’re taking a piece of art and reworking it into another piece of art. If people like it and feel the vibe, that’s even better.”
