Nova Scotia sisters Cassie and Maggie have become leading voices in international folk music, earning over twenty-two Canadian Folk Music, East Coast Music, and Music Nova Scotia awards and nominations, plus a JUNO nod for Roots/Traditional Album of the Year.
Their virtuosic blend of fiddle, piano, guitar, Gaelic and English vocals, and percussive step dance has captivated audiences across Canada, the U.S., and Europe. With more than 2,500 performances and appearances at premier festivals including Philadelphia Folk Festival, Milwaukee Irish Fest, Celtic Connections, HebCelt, and Winnipeg Folk Festival, the duo have built a devoted global following.
Their fifth studio album, Gold and Coal, marks a career high point, earning a record five nominations at the 2026 Canadian Folk Music Awards: Ensemble of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Traditional Album of the Year, Traditional Singer of the Year (Maggie MacDonald), and the Oliver Schroer “Pushing the Boundaries” Award. The release reached #2 on the International Folk DJ Charts and spent eight weeks in the NACC Folk Radio Top 10, twice breaking the Top 5.
