Shawnee Kish is a Two-Spirit Mohawk artist from Welland, Ontario, now based in Edmonton, Alberta. In 2020, she won CBC Music’s national Searchlight competition, launching her onto the Canadian music scene. In 2021, she was selected for the prestigious Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class, the country’s premier artist development program.
Her self-titled debut EP earned her a 2022 JUNO nomination for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year, with the single “Got It Bad” reaching #2 on the CBC Radio Top 20. In 2024, her album Revolution brought two more JUNO nominations: Adult Alternative Album of the Year and Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year.
Beyond the JUNOs, Kish created Music Is My Medicine, premiered with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and released by CBC Gem. In 2025, she released her debut full-length album Chapter 1, solidifying her place in Canada’s contemporary roots and alt-country landscape.
