2023 ALBUM ARTWORK OF THE YEAR | Kee Avil (Art Director), Ariane Paradis (Designer), Lawrence Fafard (Photographer) | | The JUNO Awards

Ariane Paradis

Designer

Ariane Paradis is a Montreal-based visual artist working with photography, sculpture and collage. Her approach is to revisit various types of representation by working with pre-existing images. Although exploring different ideas, her sculptural pictures always attempt to question the two dimensionality of photography. Ariane also does Urban Studies focused research. She is currently working on a research-creation project combining an architectural héritage study with a visual installation.

Kee Avil

Art Director

Led by Montréal producer Vicky Mettler, Kee Avil combines guitar, voice, and electronic production to create songs that teeter on the edge of collapse while oozing forward, like sticky wax picking up and shedding disparate elements along the way.

Kee Avil released her debut album ‘Crease’ in March 2022 (Constellation Records). Kee Avil’s emerging body of work signals a vital, viscous, virtuosic new voice in experimental songcraft–where touchstones include Juana Molina, Scott Walker, Fiona Apple and Eartheater; where PJ Harvey meets Pan Daijing or Grouper melds with Autechre.

From the start, Kee Avil has been the artistic director of the project, including album art, press photos, music videos, and live shows – ensuring the cohesive visual identity that makes her project so unique.

Lawrence Fafard

Photographer

Lawrence Fafard is a contemporary photographer living in Montreal, whose practice proposes a convergence between fantasy and reality. Their work documents an ongoing conversation about narratives of female and non-binary identity, affirming the need of a more demonstrative sense of community.
