Airline Icarus, leading young Canadian composer Brian Current’s chamber opera, is set aboard an airliner in which, taking the myth of Icarus as the central image, “explores themes of hubris mixed with technology”. The result is a powerful, resonant work that won Mr. Current the Italian Premio Fedora Award in 2011. Airline Icarus has also received concert productions by Tapestry New Opera, Fort Worth Opera, and the Royal Conservatory of Music. Soundstreams in Toronto will produce the Canadian Premiere in 2014. Award-winning writer and duel Canadian and US citizen Anton Piatigorsky’s libretti for Airline Icarus, as well as Inventory, both written in collaboration with Brian Current, were featured at the VOX festival of the New York City Opera in 2007 and 2010
