In a career that spans over a decade including 10 collaborative and solo albums, and as a founding member of the groups Vas and Niyaz, Azam Ali has confirmed her place as one of the most prolific, versatile and gifted performers on the World Music stage today. Iranian of origin, raised in India, later settling in Los Angeles, she is today a Montreal resident. As a successful international touring artist with a unique voice, her genre-defying compositions have won her legions of fans worldwide, the respect of critics and her piers.
Azam’s immense talent, with her ability to adapt her voice to any musical style, has drawn her to collaborate in studio and on stage with many reputed artists, among others Mickey Hart, Mercan Dede, Zakir Hussain, etc.
Azam’s talent has also been prized in Hollywood, working with many world-renowned film composers. Her distinctive voice can be heard on myriad film and television scores, among which include Matrix: Revolutions, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The Fight Club, etc.
She has also made major vocal and musical contributions to several big video games. With Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, she won “best original song” at the Hollywood Music Awards in 2007.
