Neil Percival Young, (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian singer-songwriter who is widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of his generation. Young began performing as a solo artist in Canada in 1960, before moving to California in 1966, where he co-founded the band Buffalo Springfield along with Stephen Stills, and later joined Crosby, Stills and Nash as a fourth member in 1969. He then forged a successful and acclaimed solo career; releasing his first album in 1968; his career has since spanned more than 40 years and 37 studio albums, with a continual and uncompromising exploration of musical styles. Young’s latest masterpiece, LE NOISE, is an eight-song album collaboration with legendary producer/songwriter Daniel Lanois, which Young subsequently documented in a 39-minute film posted on YouTube. Young is a five-time JUNO Award winner and was inducted to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1982 and twice to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2009 he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada and in 2010 was named the MusiCares Person of the Year by The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. He is also the 2011 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award recipient.
