It is with our deepest sympathy that we acknowledge the passing of Alexander “Al” Mair

A major advocate for CanCon, Mair was foundational in establishing industry infrastructure. The Toronto native began his career in the 1960s and co-founded the record label, Attic Records in 1974, which went on to be one of the most successful independent record company in Canadian history. His career spanned over five decades with countless achievements, including serving on the boards of various organizations and being appointed to the Order of Canada as a Companion Member.

President & CEO, CARAS/The JUNO Awards, Allan Reid worked alongside Mair and his team at Attic Records for many years as part of the A&M family of labels, and expresses his deep condolences, “Al was a pioneer in the Canadian music industry and helped shape the landscape as we know it today. I’m saddened to hear of his loss and my heart goes out to his loved ones.”

Our thoughts are with his friends and family during this time.
