After her unforgettable hosting debut in Saskatoon in 2007, legendary pop superstar Nelly Furtado is set to return to host the highly anticipated 2024 JUNO Awards. In addition to her hosting duties, the 10-time JUNO winner will also be treating fans to a performance they won’t want to miss.
As the countdown to The 2024 JUNOS begins, we’re revisiting Furtado’s top hosting moments to remind us why she’s the perfect woman for the job.
Arguably the most iconic entrance in JUNOS history, Furtado kicked off The 2007 JUNO Awards by descending from the ceiling as if she were flying. Dressed in a black tutu and a headpiece adorned with feathers, Furtado greeted fans while singing lyrics from her 2001 breakthrough hit “I’m Like a Bird” before settling on stage.
Later in the evening, Furtado introduced the audience to a special and cherished figure in her life, her beloved Tia Maria. In this comedic segment, things got heated when Tia Maria, played by Furtado, interviewed none other than Michael Bublé.
Not limiting herself to hosting duties, Furtado took the stage by storm, performing a medley of hits from her JUNO-winning album Loose. Teaming up with Toronto rapper Saukrates, she brought the house down with favourites like “All Good Things,” “Say It Right,” “Promiscuous,” and “Maneater.”
Showing off her comedic charm once again, Furtado unveiled her directorial debut: the original never-before-seen “Promiscuous” music video. The goofy “Promiscu-mess Girl” parody had the audience laughing as Furtado awkwardly danced to the hit song alongside quirky backup dancers.
Historic Wins
At the 2007 JUNO Awards, Furtado not only commanded the stage as the host but also made JUNOS history as the first nominee with multiple nominations to sweep every category she was nominated in. Taking home Pop Album of the Year, JUNO Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year, she solidified her status as a JUNO legend.
