Canadian Talent Recognized in the 68th Grammy Nominations - The JUNO Awards

From Cirkut to Serban Ghenea, Canadian artists earn recognition across some of the Recording Academy’s biggest categories at the 68th Grammy Awards nominations.

On Friday, November 7th, the Recording Academy announced the nominees for the 68th Grammy Awards, and Canadian talent once again shone across some of music’s biggest categories.

Leading the pack is producer and songwriter Cirkut, also credited as Henry Walter, who earned an impressive seven nominations, the most of any Canadian this year. Recognized for his standout production and songwriting work, Cirkut is nominated in Producer of the Year, Non–Classical, Record of the Year for both Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” and ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.,” Album of the Year for Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM, Song of the Year for “Abracadabra” and “APT.,” as well as Best Dance Pop Recording for “Abracadabra.”

Renowned audio engineer Serban Ghenea follows closely with six nominations, continuing his reputation as one of the most trusted names behind today’s biggest hits. Ghenea is nominated for Record of the Year for Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra,” ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.,” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild.” He also earned nominations for Album of the Year for Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM and Sabrina Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend, along with Best Dance Pop Recording for “Abracadabra.”

Pop superstar Justin Bieber scored four nominations, including Album of the Year and Pop Vocal Album for SWAG, as well as Best Pop Solo Performance for “Daisies” and Best R&B Performance for “Yukon”.

Montreal’s own KAYTRANADA earned two nominations, further cementing his influence on the global electronic scene. He’s up for Best Dance/Electronic Recording for “Space Invader” and Best Remixed Recording for “Don’t Forget About Us.”

Songwriter and producer Tobias Jesso Jr. also earned two nominations for Songwriter of the Year, Non–Classical, and for his contributions to Justin Bieber’s SWAG, nominated for Album of the Year.

Rounding out the multi-nominated Canadians is acclaimed conductor and pianist Yannick Nézet–Séguin, who received two nominations — Best Opera Recording for “Tesori: Grounded” and Best Orchestral Performance for “Still & Bonds.”

Additional Canadian nominees include Drake and PartyNextDoor for their collaboration “Somebody Loves Me,” Laila Biali for her album Wintersongs, and Tate McRae, who continues her global rise with “Just Keep Watching.”
