Serving the cultural community on the local scene, as well as being active nationally and internationally since 1974, the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal enjoys an established reputation of excellence for its inspired interpretations of the renaissance and baroque vocal repertoire. Under the direction of organist and harpsichordist Christopher Jackson, the Studio’s ensemble is composed of 13 to 18 singers remarkable for the clarity and purity of their voices, and instrumentalists playing on period instruments.
The goal the Studio set for itself at its founding is to restore the dimensions of renaissance and baroque music in all their vitality, their sensuality, their presence and their strength of conviction. As Gustav Leonhardt says so well, “this undertaking inevitably expands the works, our knowledge and the essence of who we are.”
