5:30pm to 7:15pm | Playlist Storytellers presented by SOCAN

There’s a theory that every song has two lives — the one before release and the one after. The first life is the story of the artist and why they decided to write the song. The second life is all about the role it plays in our lives.

Started in 2024, Playlist Storytellers is a live show that lets you experience the second life of songs.

Over the past two months the PLST team found five local people with personal stories about a Canadian song that changed their life.

In 75 minutes, you’ll hear five different stories from five storytellers, each involving a song from a Canadian artist. Once the story is told, the lights will go down, and we’ll all listen to the song together.

It doesn’t matter what a song is about, what matters is what it means to us. We never forget the songs that made us feel something”

Meet the Storytellers:
  • Cadence Weapon
  • Haviah Mighty
  • Ben Rispin
  • Hilary Henderson
  • Tor Lukasik-Foss

11:00am – 12:00pm | Beyond the Deal: The Publisher–Writer Relationship

SOCAN and MPC are curating a lively, story‑driven panel that pairs three publishers with a songwriter/producer from each roster to spotlight how creative publishing relationships work in the real world. Rather than focusing on deal terms, the conversation will center on creative alignment, trust, and momentum: how publishers discover and sign talent, what “development” looks like beyond the first release, and how teams create opportunities through collaboration, writing rooms, camps, pitches, and strategic planning.

Each publisher–songwriter pair will share a short “origin story,” then unpack a few practical moments where partnership made the difference—whether that meant advocating for a cut, creating the right writing connection, opening a new lane, or simply providing consistent guidance and structure. The goal is to demystify publishing, highlight best practices, and give attendees actionable insights on building sustainable careers and teams.
