Born in Havana, Cuba, trumpeter and composer Alexis Baro has built an international reputation for blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with contemporary jazz. A former collaborator of Buena Vista Social Club’s Omara Portuondo, Baro has performed and recorded with artists such as Hilario Durán, David Foster, Paquito D’Rivera, Gino Vannelli, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. His acclaimed albums include From The Other Side, the JUNO-nominated Sandstorm, and Mi Raíz, a tribute to his Cuban roots. Baro has appeared at major festivals including Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa Jazz Festivals, toured extensively across the Caribbean and Europe, and even opened for Herbie Hancock. Today, he is recognized as one of Canada’s leading jazz voices, celebrated for his powerful sound and innovative artistry.
