2025 JAZZ ALBUM OF THE YEAR (SOLO) | Audrey Ochoa | | The JUNO Awards

Her fourth recording, “The Head of a Mouse” represents a new showing of powerhouse trombonist Audrey Ochoa’s compositional prowess. Created during one of the strangest times in recent history, the COVID-19 pandemic, this record immortalizes those feelings of sorrow, desperation, and disparagement, yet also of hope, creative energy and renewed spirit. The album has been received with open arms by the jazz community, peaking at #2 on the Canadian national jazz radio chart, reaching #23 on the JazzWeek Top 50 chart in the U.S., and also received airplay on UK’s JazzFM London. She was interviewed by Neon Jazz, Sounds Visual, and US nationally-syndicated Voice of America, and received reviews in Rhythm of Study, The WholeNote Magazine, Take Effect, the Edmonton Journal, and many other jazz publications. This project was featured at seven jazz festivals and soft-seaters in summer 2024 on a Canada Council-supported tour. Audrey was chosen as one of eight Canadians to showcase for the Canadian delegation at Germany’s JazzAhead 2022. An on-demand guest trombonist, she has toured with the “Hadestown” musical including a TV appearance on the James Corden show, and played alongside the Dave Mathews Band during their concert at B.C. Place.
