2025 INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR | Melón Jimenez & Lara Wong | | The JUNO Awards

Award-winning flutist and bansuri player Lara Wong and flamenco guitarist, Melón Jiménez, make flamenco their universal musical language to traverse musical territories. Their music flows with elegance and emotive power, as they fuse the soul of flamenco with the inventive spirit of jazz and the rhythmic improvisations of Indian music. Wong, the first non-Spaniard to win the prestigious “Filón” award for best flamenco instrumentalist at the Festival Cante de las Minas, brings a unique voice with her fusion of flamenco and Indian bansuri. Jiménez, shaped by his Andalusian gitano roots and culturally diverse upbringing, uses the flamenco guitar as a doorway to innovation, leading to collaborations with renowned artists like Anoushka Shankar, Enrique Morente, and Richard Bona.

Since their initial meeting on stage in 2018, they have performed across Canada, Europe, and Asia at venues such as the National Arts Centre, Vancouver Folk Festival, Blue Note Shanghai, SunFest, Folk Ontario, Mundial Montreal, and Mariposa Festival. In October 2024, they released their first album of contemporary instrumental flamenco, CONFLUENCIAS.
