Multi award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist Laila Biali has headlined festivals and venues spanning five continents from New York City’s Carnegie Hall to Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts, and supported international icon Sting. In 2020, Laila was honoured for Excellence in Songwriting by SOCAN Music, following a 2019 JUNO win (Canada’s GRAMMY) for her self-titled release. Additional accolades include winner of the Canadian Songwriting Competition (2018) and Canada’s National Jazz Awards, placing Laila among the most decorated Jazz artists in Canada. And while she continues to earn high honours in the Jazz world, Laila’s signature sound transcends genre as she “masterfully mixes jazz and pop, bringing virtuosity and unpredictability to songs that are concise and catchy” (Washington Post). Her latest release – “Your Requests” – received 4.5 stars from All About Jazz and showcases personal arrangements of jazz classics requested by her social media community. It features multi GRAMMY winner Kurt Elling and two time JUNO winners Emilie-Claire Barlow and Caity Gyorgy as well as instrumentalists Anat Cohen, Grégoire Maret, Kelly Jefferson, Michael Davidson, George Koller, Larnell Lewis, Ben Wittman and Maninho Costa.
