2024 SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR | Charlotte Cardin, Jason Brando & Lubalin | | The JUNO Awards

Charlotte Cardin

After generating hundreds of millions of streams and earning widespread praise courtesy of Harper’s BAZAAR, The FADER, Interview, W Magazine, and more, Charlotte Cardin opens up like never before on her 2023 sophomore album, “99 Nights”. The Montreal-born singer, songwriter, and creator exhales raw truths through a haze of nocturnal production, leaving pieces of her story on tape. Created with her core-team in Montreal, Cardin also welcomed a string of international collaborators for this new chapter. “99 Nights” expanded Cardin’s reach internationally with billboards going up in New York City’s Time Square, the artist getting her own radio show on Apple Music 1, being featured on A COLORS SHOW and the album coming in at #9 on Spotify’s Global Debut Chart.

Following the “Big Boy” and “Main Girl” EPs, Cardin emerged as an international phenomenon with her 2021 debut “Phoenix”. At the 2022 JUNO Awards, the LP took home “Album of the Year” and “Pop Album of the Year,” while “Meaningless” garnered “Single of the Year” and she personally received “Artist of the Year.” Inciting unanimous tastemaker applause, HYPEBAE christened her “one of Canada’s brightest young talents.” After selling out the “Phoenix Tour” across Canada, Cardin kicked off the “99 Nights Tour”, her most ambitious one yet, with stops including Toronto’s Massey Hall, NYC’s Irving Plaza and L’Olympia, in Paris.

Jason Brando

Jason Brando is the founder, president and artistic director of Montreal’s creative house Cult Nation. Recognized as Charlotte Cardin’s main creative partner through the years, Brando co-wrote and co-produced Cardin’s multi-JUNO Awards winning debut “Phoenix” and her sophomore album “99 Nights”.

Lubalin

At the close of 2020, Lubalin skyrocketed to viral TikTok fame overnight with his “internet drama” videos, which earned him 3.4 million followers. The Montreal-based creator has also released music since 2020 and collected credits on Charlotte Cardin’s projects. After co-writing the title track to Cardin’s multi-JUNO Awards winning debut “Phoenix”, he’s credited as a co-writer and co-producer on much of her sophomore record “99 Nights”.
