Emma Higgins
Emma Higgins is a writer and director raised in Vancouver, Canada. She is known for her work in music videos including Jessie Reyez “No One’s in the Room” which won video of the year at the 2021 Juno Awards. This marked her first Juno win and second nomination after being nominated in 2018 for her video for Mother Mother’s “The Drugs”. Her obsession with colour, wardrobe, art direction, hair and makeup give her work a distinct visual language. Above all else, she is dedicated to the humanity in every story she approaches, with a particular love of the misfit or outcast, she has a punk rock heart.
In long form, she is best known for her film The Northwoods (2021) of which she is also the writer. Her short films have screened at The Atlanta Film Festival, CFC Film Festival, Sacramento Horror Festival, Citizen Jane Film Festival and most recently at the 2021 Hollyshorts Film Festival.
Outside of directing she enjoys all things Halloween, middle eastern food, cats, hiking, running fast and the 1982 masterpiece Poltergeist. She currently splits her time between Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver.
Jessie Reyez
Born in Toronto, Canada to Colombian immigrants, Jessie was raised between worlds. Linguistically and culturally fluid, Jessie has always had music as a universal grounding point. Taught guitar by her father at a young age -Jessie would explore various means of expression from instruments to voice to dance. In a banner career thus far, Jessie released two critically acclaimed EPs,Kiddo & Being Human In Public,has been nominated for a Grammy award for Best Urban Contemporary Album for her sophomore EP,won 4 Juno Awards for R&B/Soul Recording of The Year, Best Video, and Best New Artist, earned the title of Top Female Debut Album and Top R&B Album of 2020 for her debut album, and made a cameo in Beyonce’s Black is King visual album.
