Joel Wood is a Plains Cree from Maskwacis, AB, CAN – Treaty 6 Territory. Joel Wood is also a member of multi JUNOS and 9-time GRAMMY nominated Powwow/Rounddance Drum Group, Northern Cree Singers from Saddle Lake, AB, CAN. Joel has been drumming and singing traditional powwow/rounddance and ceremony songs since he was a young child. In December 2020, Joel released his first solo album titled, “Joel Wood – Singing Is Healing”. Singing Is Healing won Hand Drum/Fiddle/Instrumental Album of the Year at Summer Solstice Music Festival in Summer of 2021. Joel is currently working on a 2nd solo album which will focus on language revitalization in hopes to encourage youth from First Nations communities across Turtle Island.
