Born and raised in Montreal, Allison Russell is a self-taught singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist of extraordinary power, talent and grace. She imbues her music with the colors of her city – the light, the landscape, the language – but also the trauma she suffered there. It’s a heartbreaking reflection on a childhood no one should have to endure, but also a powerful – affirmed – claim from a place of healing, motherhood, partnership and a new life made in Nashville. Allison Russell is a founding member of the acclaimed groups Our Native Daughters (with Rhiannon Giddens, Leyla McCalla and Amythyst Kiah), and Birds of Chicago. Allison’s critically-acclaimed debut solo album Outside Child features musical contributions from many of the artistic family she found there, including Yola, Erin Rae, Steve Dawson, The McCreary Sisters, Ruth Moody, director Dan Knobler, Jamie Dick, Joe Pisapia and her partner JT Nero.
