2020 CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN/GOSPEL ALBUM OF THE YEAR | Brian Doerksen | | The JUNO Awards

Brian Doerksen’s songs, like ‘Come, now is the time to worship’ & ‘Faithful One’ are sung in faith communities around the world. In 2008, Brian received a JUNO award for ‘Holy God’ (Christian/Gospel Album) and in 2014 at the Covenant Awards, he received a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ from the Gospel Music Association of Canada.

Brian is also as part of a band The SHIYR Poets (pronounced ‘Sheer’) who are co-writing new inspirational folk-rock settings of the ancient Psalms, the world’s oldest and most sung spiritual songbook. Their first 2 recordings won ‘Inspirational Album of Year’ in 2014 & 2016 at the GMA’s; Volume 3 released in May 2019.

Brian’s latest solo release Grateful (winner of the GMA’s 2019 ‘‘Inspirational Album of Year’) was nominated for a 2019 JUNO featuring songs like ‘Scars On His Hands’ (GMA’s 2019 Folk Song of the Year) and ‘If Jesus Is The Face of God’ (GMA’s 2019 Gospel Song of the Year.)

Married to Joyce for 35 years, their 6 children include 2 sons with special needs (Fragile X Syndrome) and they continue to live in the home where Brian was raised in Abbotsford, B.C.
