Otterville is a double album of music by Canadian cellist and composer Andrew Downing, released in October 2016. Otterville is a quiet instrumental group of vibraphone (Michael Davidson), lap steel guitar (Christine Bougie), saxophone (Tara Davidson), cello (Andrew), bass (Paul Mathew) and drums (Nick Fraser). The group released their first album in the fall of 2016 to great critical acclaim.
Andrew is a Toronto based musician who plays primarily in the creative jazz scene in Canada, but also performs classical chamber music, improvised music, folk and roots music, and world music. He is highly regarded as a composer and arranger, having worked with Patricia O’Callaghan, Jayme Stone, The Gryphon Trio, the Art of Time Ensemble, The Vancouver Bach Choir and the Prince George Symphony Orchestra. His other projects include Melodeon, which is a chamber group dedicated to playing live scores for silent films and Anahtar, a collaboration with a Turkish ud player that plays original music inspired by Ottoman Classical music. He teaches composition, theory and improvisation at the University of Toronto’s acclaimed Jazz program.
