GRAMMY, GRAMOPHONE and eleven-time JUNO Award-winning violinist James Ehnes is considered one of the world’s finest violinists with more than 40 recordings to his credit in repertoire ranging from Bach violin sonatas to John Adams’ Road Movies. Born in Brandon, Manitoba, he began violin studies at the age of four and made his orchestral solo debut with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal at age 13 and hasn’t looked back since. James performs across the globe with the best-known orchestras and conductors, maintaining a challenging balance of concerto concerts, chamber music and recitals. He is also Artistic Director of the Seattle Chamber Music Society and first violin of the Ehnes Quartet. James holds honorary doctorates from Brandon University and the University of British Columbia; is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and in 2010 was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada. When he’s not on stage, you can more than likely find James under the hood of one of his vintage cars, a 1971 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible and a 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS or at a baseball game. James Ehnes plays the "Marsick" Stradivarius of 1715.
