“David is a great blues player. I like his style!”
These words of the late legendary blues guitarist Johnny Winter are high praise for David Gogo.
Born in Nanaimo, BC, Gogo began playing guitar when he was five years old. When David Gogo arrived in 1994, it was a critical success and Gogo earned a JUNO Award nomination for Best New Artist. In addition, Gogo has received four JUNO Award nominations for Blues Album of the Year.
Gogo has also received 16 Maple Blues Awards nominations (winning Guitarist of the Year twice), two INDIE Award nominations, three WCMA nominations (winning Blues Recording of the Year in 2012) and the Best Canadian Blues Musician in 2004 from CBC Radio’s Saturday Night Blues.
Gogo’s music has been featured in television shows and movies and on radio stations worldwide. The song, “Never Gonna Change,” co-written by Gogo, appeared on Buddy Guy’s 2013 album Rhythm & Blues.
Not only has Gogo performed on stages with B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Albert Collins, Otis Rush and Bo Diddley, he’s also opened for Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughan and The Tragically Hip. Gogo continues to tour constantly and is known as one of Canada’s hardest working blues musicians.
