2015 | World Music Album of the Year (Sponsored by Canada Council for the Arts) | Eccodek | | The JUNO Awards

Eccodek is a contemporary world fusion project created and led by Canadian producer Andrew McPherson. Their six releases fuse the worlds of Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, the South Pacific, Jamaica and Canada over a musical palette of funk, tribalism, dub, electronica and jazz. Eccodek’s 2001 debut, More Africa in Us, set the stage for Eccodek’s chameleonic approach to music making. Their sixth release, Singing in Tongues, returns the project to its African inspired roots and showcases the band’s most fully realised collaboration with McPherson working alongside Malian based artist Jah Youssouf, last heard on Eccodek’s JUNO Award-nominated Shivaboom. Eccodek’s music has been released on countless labels worldwide (Six Degrees, Modiba, Buddha Bar, Real World, White Swan, Black Swan) and been praised in the Toronto Star, National Geographic, Huffington Post, Boston Globe, Toronto Sun, CMJ Monthly, CBC, BBC and fRoots.
Eccodek’s McPherson has collaborated with artists including JUNO Award winners/nominees Kiran Ahluwalia, Jaffa Road, Mansa Sissoko, Dubmatix, The McDades, Natalie McMaster, as well as Vieux Farke Touré, Delhi 2 Dublin, Transglobal Underground and Dub Colossus. Singing in Tongues has been universally praised since its release in May 2014 as one of the most impressive fusion releases of the year.
