Jazz guitarist/composer Jim Head has worked with such acclaimed jazz artists as Tim Hagans, Sheila Jordan, Eddie Daniels, Joel Miller, Kirk MacDonald, Lew Tabackin, Christine Jensen, David Braid, Kelly Jefferson, David Virelles, Johannes Weidenmueller, Mike Downes, Doug Riley, Owen Howard, Myron Walden, Ralph Bowen, P.J. Perry, Dave Restivo, Chet Doxas, Jane Bunnett, John Stetch, Chris Tarry, and many others. He has performed in festivals and clubs across Canada, as well as China, Mexico, and the U.S., and has appeared on over 30 recordings. Jim lives in Edmonton, where he is the guitar department head in the Jazz and Contemporary Music program at MacEwan University. He has also maintained close ties with Montreal, where he lived for several years studying at McGill University and playing with many of the city’s leading jazz artists.
His latest recording as a leader, Zoetrope, was recorded in New York with alto saxophonist John O’Gallagher (The Anton Webern Project, Joe Henderson Big Band), bassist Johannes Weidenmueller (Kenny Werner Trio), JUNO Award nominated drummer Owen Howard (Drum Lore, Benedikt Jahnel Trio), and pianist Chris Andrew (2013 Montreal TD Grand Prize winner).
