The Canadian baritone Gerald Finley has established himself as one of the leading singers and dramatic interpreters of his generation, performing at the major opera and concert venues of the world in a wide variety of repertoire. With Hyperion Records his releases include a Gramophone Magazine Award winning CD of Schumann’s Dichterliebe, and two further Gramophone Awards for Songs by Samuel Barber, and Britten’s Songs and Proverbs, all with Julius Drake. He has been twice nominated as Gramophone’s Artist of the Year in 2006 and 2009. With the London Philharmonic his CD Arias in English also won a 2011 JUNO Award. In 2012, he was honoured by Opera Canada with a Ruby Award. In 2014, he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada.
Features of this season include concerts and recitals throughout Europe, the Marriage of Figaro at the Met, Don Giovanni in Munich and Cosi fan tutte at the Salzburg Festival. He adds to his Wagner roles at Covent Garden as Amfortas in Parsifal. In Toronto, his performance of the role of Falstaff with the COC has garnered much praise. His recording projects with Julius Drake this year include Winterreise and a CD of Liszt Songs, with Hyperion.
