Get to know 2023 Breakthrough Artist of the Year Presented by FACTOR, The Government of Canada and Canada’s Private Radio Broadcasters nominee, Dax in our “7 Questions With” series where we speak with first-time JUNO Award nominees from all genres.

Daniel Nwosu Jr., better known as the Canadian rapper, singer and songwriter, Dax, is currently riding a wave of success with his Country-infused and near Gold breakout single “Dear Alcohol”. Initially sparked by his millions of devoted followers on TikTok, the single burst on DSPs and very soon after garnered a remix with Grammy-nominated Country artist, Elle King. A self-made independent artist for several years, Dax has garnered over half a billion streams on his collective catalog and has amassed over 13 million followers across his social platforms. Dax shows no signs of slowing down as he preps to hit the road and meet the new fans that he’s made with “Dear Alcohol,” all while maintaining a social media presence that only few in music have been able to master.

1. How does it feel to be nominated for a JUNO award?

Feels amazing. Watched the JUNOS growing up so it’s a surreal feeling. I am blessed to have the opportunity.

2. Tell us a bit about your JUNO-nominated project.

I can’t say much about that just yet, but I’ll be sharing some new stuff soon.

3. What has been the craziest moment of your music career to date?

Selling out most of my 2022 Canadian Tour.

4. What’s your favourite lyric from this project, and why does it resonate with you so much?

That will be revealed soon.

5. Which Canadian artist would you like to collaborate with and why?

Shawn Mendes. It would be legendary.

6. What would you like music fans to know about you? How would you introduce your music to
new or soon-to-be fans?

That I am an artist who created something from absolutely nothing with music for the people spread by the people.

7. What’s next for you?

Impacting the world on a larger scale.
