CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN/GOSPEL ALBUM OF THE YEAR | Jaylene Johnson | | The JUNO Awards

Jaylene Johnson is an artist who has overcome many obstacles (head-on collision, vocal damage and subsequent surgery, difficulties having a family) to release her most honest, heartfelt work to date Potter & Clay, recorded at Signpost Music with JUNO Award winning producer Murray Pulver and JUNO Award winning executive producer Steve Bell. Her previous work includes cuts and title tracks for Amy Sky’s Alive & Awake (2009) and Luke McMaster’s Trending (2016), a single “Mine” with Jody Direen that debuted on the top 10 country chart for iTunes in NZ (2014), upwards of twenty licenses for network television, two WCMA nominations, five Covenant Award nominations, and a JUNO Award nomination for collaboration on “Eagle & Hawk” with The Great Unknown. In summer 2015, after a conversation with Steve Bell, and feeling her voice was strong enough again to consider serious recording, she rented a remote cabin on Lake Winnipeg, where she wrote two songs a day for a week, resulting in a project that has earned commendations from industry vets including Brian Doerksen, Carolyn Arends, Steve Bell and Amy Sky. The night before she left for the cabin, she also discovered she was pregnant – her daughter was born in Spring 2016.
