The winners, selected by a “super-jury” of music industry leaders, will receive support from Canada’s premier artist development program allowing them to transform their careers with crucial tools and invaluable experiences.
2018/2019 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class winners:
Haviah Mighty
Haviah Mighty is a Toronto-born, Brampton-raised artist. She began her artistic journey in 2009 (when she was only 17), remixing songs by popular artists and adding her own unique voice to them. From there, her flow evolved into her signature confident, in-your-face rapping style that has since gained her considerable recognition. With new school production and a forceful and focused delivery, this multidisciplinary talent is a rapper, singer, producer and DJ, all mushed into a 5’1” ball of fury.
Port Cities
Port Cities is a pop group hailing from Nova Scotia. In the brief period of time since Port Cities unleashed their incendiary debut—a wildly self-assured collection of sparkling, rootsy pop that showcases the Nova Scotia trio’s devotion to songwriting—the band’s been hard at work bringing it to the masses. They’ve continued to explore and evolve their ambitious pop sound, melding diverse musical backgrounds to create an alchemy that’s part art, part songwriting science, and all magic.
smrtdeath
smrtdeath (sethany, lil death) is a singer/vocalist hailing from Winnipeg, MB. Drawing as much influence from Future and Lil Wayne as Sum 41 and Taking Back Sunday, smrtdeath blends together melodies more likely to be found in your favourite pop-punk or emo throwbacks with flows and cadences rivaling your favourite contemporary rappers.
Aquakultre
Aquakulture is a hip-hop artist/singer-songwriter, hailing from Nova Scotia. Aquakultre joins the 2018/2019 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class as the winner of CBC Music’s Searchlight competition.
The winning acts will receive an all-inclusive trip to Toronto for an intensive mentorship week hosted by Canada’s Music Incubator at Coalition Music with industry leaders and Canadian artists. This will conclude with a music industry showcase night in Toronto. Additionally, the winners will receive a trip to the 2019 JUNO Awards in London, Ont., that includes transportation, hotel, complete access to JUNO Week events, and a performance slot at JUNOfest Presented by CBC Music; a two-day music festival during JUNO Week. One artist will be selected to perform in front of over 1,200 music industry elite at the JUNO Gala Dinner & Awards. The winners will be featured in exclusive content that will run on JUNOTV.ca, as well as receive studio time at Slaight Music Recording Studios.
Partners of the 2018/2019 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class are Slaight Music, and Canada’s Music Incubator at Coalition Music.
