THE ORGANIZATION

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences/L’académie canadienne des arts et des sciences de l’enregistrement (CARAS) was formed in 1975 as an umbrella not-for-profit organization to oversee The JUNO Awards – Canada’s Music Awards, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and MusiCounts, Canada’s music education charity.

CARAS was created to preserve and enhance the Canadian music industry and to contribute towards higher artistic and industry standards. CARAS’ mandate is comprised of four key pillars: Educate through our music education charity MusiCounts’ programs and initiatives, Develop emerging artists through mentorship and development programs, Celebrate Canadian artists through The JUNO Awards and other year-round initiatives, and Honour music industry icons through the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director, Events & Academy Operations, the Events Manager will be an integral part the Events team and be responsible for leading, supporting and on-site execution for a variety of events in the lead up and during JUNO Week such as Junior JUNOS, JUNO Stories from the Studio, JUNO Comedy Show, JUNO Opening Night Awards, JUNO Songwriters’ Circle, Red Carpets and more. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly-skilled, passionate and dedicated individual who has excellent event management skills, has an eye for the details, and has a keen interest in the Canadian music industry. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and support the planning and execution of several JUNO events
  • Coordinate event logistics such as talent, production, food and beverage, suppliers, rentals, signage, volunteers, etc. 
  • Manage on-site event coordination, production, and volunteer briefing, including handling rehearsals and/or sound checks 
  • Act as a main point of contact for third-party suppliers, contractors, and volunteers
  • Create and maintain event documents including, but not limited to, show flows, production schedules, rehearsal schedules, advances, and invite lists 
  • Support budget management, cost tracking and reconciliation 
  • Research venues, suppliers, and contractors, ensuring a range of diverse and inclusive representation 
  • Continuously work with the Director of Events & Academy Operations on improving event execution 
  • Provide administration support and complete other department-related duties as required and assigned

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS

  • 5+ years related experience in event planning and execution 
  • Experience leading and executing high-profile, public-facing events in a similar setting preferred 
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to think creatively and is solutions-oriented 
  • Proven commitment to delivering excellence in client service 
  • Ability to work in cross-functional internal and external teams, and independently with minimal supervision 
  • Advocate for emerging talent and diversity 
  • Proficient with Google Suite and Microsoft Office required 
  • Willingness to work flexible hours based on event schedule 
  • French as a second language, an asset
  • Working knowledge of Canadian music and culture, an asset
