TYPE: Full-Time 8-Month Contract Position


The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (“CARAS”) is seeking a highly motivated candidate with substantial leadership experience within the areas of Marketing, Communications, and Digital Media for the role of Director, Marketing & Communications. Reporting to the Vice President, this role comes with great responsibility and will play a pivotal role in the celebration of the JUNO Awards 50th Anniversary. This position involves developing and implementing marketing, communications, and digital media strategies for our major properties including, the JUNO Awards, The Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and the Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class.


  • Lead and manage overall strategic planning and execution of the Creative, Marketing & Communications, and Digital Media teams.
  • Ensure the organization’s brand and marketing strategy delivers value to the organization, partners and drives revenue
  • Manage and provide guidance to three direct reports and ensure the team is collaborating and working cohesively together
  • Provide counsel to the Executive Team during crisis’
  • Write communication pieces as needed (press releases, speeches, marketing copy)
  • Responsible for determining and managing the departments’ budget and ensuring that spend is well planned and maximizes return
  • Accountable for setting and achieving departmental goals and objectives
  • Tackle problems from many perspectives with innovative tactics, strong judgment, and sound instincts
  • Oversee and lead public relations efforts for CARAS which includes managing third party suppliers (i.e. PR agency)
  • Provide support when needed to MusiCounts, CARAS’ affiliated charity


  • Minimum five years of leadership experience in the Marketing and/or Communications fields with a strong digital media focus
  • Superior demonstrated writing skills (press releases, speech writing, copy)
  • Highly refined skills in strategically deploying digital/mobile channels and social media to achieve marketing and communications goals
  • Proficient in the use of data-driven insights to craft relevant communications that reflect customers’ preferences, priorities, and aspirations
  • Knowledge of effective design strategies/techniques across print and digital channels
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic alliances externally to deliver value for the organization
  • Working understanding of all aspects of web development, including user experience and interface design, and the capabilities of standard development tools
  • Deep familiarity with the use of analytics to enhance and modify website performance
  • Familiar with the development and production of video and other multimedia assets
  • A keen understanding of the production of marketing assets from content development to design, editorial and production
  • Experienced in developing effective print and digital advertising, including media planning
  • Familiarity with the principles and mechanics of effective public relations and media
  • Possessing a strong understanding of the music industry, how it works, its structures, organizations, and roles is an asset
  • Bilingualism is an asset
  • Comfortable with uncertainty and manage well through adversity
