ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

MusiCounts is Canada’s music education charity associated with CARAS and the JUNO Awards. MusiCounts’ vision is to ensure that all youth in Canada have access to music education through their schools and communities. This vision is realized through grant programs that invest directly into schools and communities across Canada that put musical instruments into the hands of kids who need them the most. Additionally, MusiCounts creates educational resources for teachers and students; empowers young people to pursue music as a career; and celebrates teachers, artists, and philanthropists who champion music education. Since 1997 MusiCounts has awarded over $16,000,000 in support of music education in Canada.

OVERALL POSITION 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications, the successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the growth of MusiCounts by telling dynamic, diverse, and engaging stories across platforms for a variety of audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SOCIAL AND CONTENT (45%)

  • Develop content for MusiCounts’ social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn)
  • Coordinate assets and publishing schedule
  • Transcribe videos and manage publishing to YouTube
  • Assist in setting and enacting engagement and growth strategies for social media platforms
  • Moderate social media platform engagement
  • Produce reports on social media metrics

WEB AND DIGITAL (45%)

  • Perform content updates to website via CMS (wagtail)
  • Write content for MusiCounts Stories blog series
  • Track and report on website metrics and, in collaboration with Sr. Manager, interpret data for MusiCounts team
  • Produce quarterly e-newsletter (using MailChimp)

ADMINISTRATION (10%)

  • Manage content catalogue, including the solicitation and development of additional recipient content
  • Copy editing or marketing and communications materials, and occasionally fundraising and program documents
  • Manage translation process with third-party contractor
  • Assist with workplace administration tasks such as meeting scheduling, advisory committee meeting notes, etc.

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent writing skills, including a comfort with persuasive and narrative writing, writing across platforms, and with a strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter with a team player attitude. Not afraid of trying new things, expressing ideas, and contributing to team discussions and brainstorms
  • Knowledge of content management systems (WordPress, Wagtail, Squarespace, or similar)
  • Knowledge of social media publishing platforms (Hootsuite, Sprout, Later, or similar)
  • Some knowledge of and experience in basic graphic design (using tools such as Canva, inDesign, or illustrator)
  • Comfort with on-screen appearance in TikTok
  • Knowledge of Google Suite applications, project management software, email marketing tools (MailChimp or similar), and in-app video editing tools

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary diploma required in a related field and minimum one-two years related job experience preferred
  • Bilingualism is an asset, but not required
